Slightly Durable to Non-durable; low resistance to rot and insect attack without chemical treatment.
Common Uses
Light construction, interior millwork, cabinetry, crates, furniture, and carving.
Geographic Origin
Eastern North America (United States and Canada).
Market Value & Sustainability
Estimated Market Value
$2.50 - $5.00 per board foot depending on grade.
Wood Age Estimate
Relatively recent (5-15 years), likely modern furniture or trim with artificial staining and minor surface wear.
Sustainability Status
Least Concern (IUCN); widely available and harvested sustainably in North America.
Workability
Excellent with both hand and machine tools; however, it is prone to indentation and can be difficult to stain evenly without a wood conditioner.
Notable Features
Faint resinous odor when freshly cut; light weight; very easy to nail and screw without splitting.
Finish Recommendations
Pre-stain conditioner is highly recommended to prevent blotching. Finishes well with polyurethane, lacquer, or oil-based varnishes.
Identification Confidence
Medium-High. The visible blotchiness of the stain, fine grain texture, and characteristic dark resin specks are hallmarks of stained Eastern White Pine.
