Market Value & Sustainability

Estimated Market Value

$6.00 to $9.00 per board foot (USD) for Select grade S2S.

Wood Age Estimate

Relatively modern sample based on the pale color and lack of deep oxidation or graying; likely cut within the last 1-3 years.

Sustainability Status

Not listed in CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List; widely available and FSC certified sources are common.

Workability

Turns and planes well, though high density can lead to burning if bits are dull. Glues and finishes well, though it can be prone to splotching when stained.

Notable Features

High resistance to abrasion and indentation. Known for its acoustic clarity. Lacks a distinctive scent when working.

Finish Recommendations

Water-based polyurethane is recommended to keep it white; oil-based finishes will instantly yellow it. A pre-stain conditioner is necessary if using pigment-based stains.

Identification Confidence

High. The extremely tight, closed pore structure combined with the creamy-white color and subtle growth ring definition is characteristic of Acer saccharum.
