End grain clearly shows large, ring-porous earlywood pores densely filled with tyloses and light-colored broad medullary rays running perpendicular to the growth rings. Flat-sawn surface shows characteristic ray fleck and cathedral patterns.

Light to medium tan/brown heartwood with a slight olive-gray undertone. Sapwood is narrow and off-white to light tan. Luster is moderate, darkening slightly over time to an amber-gold tone with UV exposure.
