Grain Pattern
Usually straight, but can be irregular. Shows a cathedral pattern on the face and tight, diffuse-porous rings on the end grain. Figure is mostly plain but exhibits some wavy growth increments.
Color & Appearance
Heartwood ranges from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. Color can sometimes have a grey, purple, or reddish cast. Sapwood is pale yellow-gray to nearly white. Nut-like warmth develops with age.
