Can be challenging due to its high hardness, which can quickly dull cutting edges. Prone to burning during routing or crosscutting if feed rates are too slow, but glues, turns, and finishes well.

Takes stains, dyes, and clear finishes very well, though it can sometimes blotch; a pre-color conditioner or gel stain is recommended for even coloring. Polyurethane, lacquer, or conversion varnish provide excellent topcoats.
