Grain Pattern
Straight to slightly irregular grain with a medium texture and a subtle cathedral pattern visible on the flat-sawn portions.

Rich brown heartwood ranging from lighter pale brown to dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks, contrasted by a lighter yellowish-grey sapwood. Luster is medium and it tends to lighten slightly to a warm golden-brown patina with prolonged light exposure.

Exceptional workability. It machines, glues, finishes, and hand-carves very well. Tends to have occasional tear-out on figured pieces if grain direction isn't respected.
Finish Recommendations
Takes finishes exceptionally well. Danish oil, wipe-on varnish, lacquer, or polyurethane all highlight the rich depth of the grain nicely with minimal preparation.
Notable Features
Possesses a pleasant, mild distinctive scent when worked. Excellent dimensional stability and shock resistance.
