Color & Appearance
Vivid reddish-orange to deep brownish-red heartwood, often with darker reddish-brown streaks. The pale yellow sapwood is clearly demarcated. Note: Freshly cut Padauk is a bright vibrant red/orange, but UV light exposure causes it to rapidly darken over time to a rich brownish-red or purplish-brown.

Workability
Generally easy to work with both hand and machine tools, though interlocked grain can sometimes cause tearout during planing. Glues, turns, and finishes well, though its natural oils can occasionally interfere with certain adhesives if not properly degreased.
Finish Recommendations
Takes a wide variety of finishes exceptionally well. Clear oil finishes (like Danish oil or teak oil) or wipe-on varnishes help highlight the chatoyance and natural color. UV-inhibiting finishes are recommended to slow down the natural darkening process caused by light exposure.
