Workability
Exceptional workability with both hand and machine tools. Planes smoothly, glues and stains extremely well, and holds screws/nails securely. Dulls cutters moderately.
Finish Recommendations
Thrives with oil-based finishes (tung oil, linseed oil) or wipe-on polyurethane/lacquer to bring out depth and rich color tone. Pore filling recommended if a glass-smooth surface is desired.
Notable Features
Faint mild aromatic odor when worked. Contains juglone (can cause mild allergic reactions or respiratory irritation during sanding). Excellent dimensional stability once seasoned.
