Other Bruguiera species such as B. gymnorhiza (large-leafed orange mangrove) give similar but often larger, redder-brown stock. Because these are hard to separate on wood alone, provenance, the small stem size, the tan-to-light-brown tone, and the fine even grain of the sample are the practical tells; confident species-level calls usually rely on the tree, bark, and habitat rather than the timber.
