Grain Pattern
Straight to slightly wavy grain, medium-coarse texture with open pores and prominent fine rays.
Color & Appearance
Currently weathered to a silvery-grey surface patina. Freshly planed heartwood is golden to medium brown, darkening with light exposure. Low natural sheen when weathered, silky luster when oiled.

Workability
Generally easy to machine, but high silica content severe dulls cutting tools and carbide edges. High natural oil content makes gluing difficult; solvent wiping (acetone) prior to epoxy bonding is recommended.
Finish Recommendations
Teak oil or penetrating marine varnish to preserve warm golden tones. Can be left unfinished outdoors to maintain the silvery-grey weathered patina.
Notable Features
Distinctive leather-like smell when freshly worked. Contains high natural rubber/oil resin that gives it unmatched water resistance without rotting.
