Eastern North America
Workability
Very easy to work with both hand and machine tools. It planes, turns, and glues well, though knots can occasionally cause tearing. It has a pleasant, distinct cedar aroma when cut.
Finish Recommendations
Accepts finishes well, but oil-based finishes, shellac, or lacquers help preserve the natural vibrant colors. Note that finishes can sometimes prevent the release of the aromatic oils.
Notable Features
Famous for its strong, aromatic fragrance which acts as a natural moth repellent. Contains natural decay-resistant oils and exhibits a striking purple heartwood ring surrounded by bright yellow-white sapwood.
