Cannonball Mangrove is the timber of Xylocarpus granatum, a small to medium mangrove tree in the mahogany family (Meliaceae). It grows in the landward and mid zones of tropical tidal forests throughout the Indo-West Pacific, from the East African coast through Southeast Asia to northern Australia and the western Pacific islands. The common name comes from its large, round, woody fruit — a heavy globe the size of a grapefruit that splits into irregular, tightly interlocking seed segments, earning the tree its other nickname, the puzzlenut tree.

Because it belongs to the same family as true mahogany, Xylocarpus yields a wood with a distinctly mahogany-like character: warm brown heartwood, a moderate density, and a workable, even texture.
